Downtown Music School Plans to Relocate

The Lesson Center, which first opened at 6 E. Broad St., is constructing a new school on Easton Avenue, which is scheduled to be open by late fall.

Downtown Bethlehem music school The Lesson Center plans to move its studios to a building under construction on Easton Avenue in the city, the business announced last week.

The new location at 1509 Easton Ave. will include private lesson rooms, classroom space for teen and adult bands, group piano, group guitar and pre-k classes, as well as a performance stage for intimate recitals.

A news release said school leadership is mulling whether to retain its current and original Bethlehem location at 6 E. Broad St. for specific programming, but no decision has been made. The Lesson Center, which now has schools in three other Lehigh Valley locations, first opened for business at 6 E. Broad St. in 2004.

At the time, the studio had three lesson rooms on the first floor next to Billy’s Downtown Diner. The school was expanded in 2008 to include the second floor space above the diner. The Lesson Center has since opened outlets in Trexlertown, Coopersburg and Northampton.

“We have a strong affinity for our home on Broad Street,” said managing director, Lori Donovan Roberts.  “But, this move will allow us to expand our services to our customers, making their experience both educational and enjoyable, and will ensure the most stress free experience.”

The addition of a performance space within the studio will help further the studio’s mission of providing goal-centered learning.

“We believe students grow the most when they have specific goals and benchmarks to achieve,” said owner Jeff Roberts. “Our emphasis has always been on providing performance opportunities to keep that motivation in the forefront of our student’s learning experience. By adding our own stage to our Bethlehem studio, we can further enhance that experience.”

The new location will include ample, free, public parking, as well as a convenient student drop off point for families on the run.

Donovan Roberts said she anticipates construction will be complete by late autumn and that there will be no disruption in lesson schedules.
