Bites Nearby: The Inside Scoop

The Inside Scoop proves that it's always perfect weather for homemade ice cream.

Even though spring arrived almost a week ago, Mother Nature has had something different to offer, with snow showers and lows in the 20s in the forecast. Nevertheless, it's still a perfect time to visit The Inside Scoop, and on a chilly, rainy day we ventured down to Coopersburg to do just that.

The Inside Scoop is much more than just an ice cream parlor. For starters, the restaurant serves one of the best cups of coffee in PA, made on an espresso machine imported from Holland.

The Scoop's decor is '50s-inspired, with juke boxes located at each of the booths as well as a full-sized model by the entrance. Pop in a dime and in a moment you're listening to "Earth Angel" while enjoying a frosty Atomic Freeze--a soft serve-like treat made with homemade ice cream and your favorite candy mix-in.

On our visit we sampled a homemade Belgian waffle sundae that could have easily fed three people. The sundae was made with two extra large scoops of ice cream (green mint chocolate chip and double chocolate chunk were our choices), hot fudge, whipped cream, cherries and a waffle that was still crisp even after being buried at the bottom of the sundae. A cup of good old American brewed coffee kept us warm while we satisfied our sweet tooth to excess.

We also enjoyed checking out the back room, a great place for the kids to hang out, with a shuffleboard table, television, bean bags, a bookshelf full of games and more. Free Wi-Fi is also available, so bring your laptop along on your visit.

All of the Inside Scoop's ice cream is made fresh on the premises, and they also offer a wide selection of water ice, in flavors such as blue raspberry, cherry and pina colada.

In warmer weather they offer another treat: a 20-foot tall, high definition outdoor theater. Customers can enjoy their ice cream treats at picnic tables while watching movies and TV shows in the great outdoors.

The Inside Scoop is located at 301 N. Third Street in Coopersburg.

They're currently still open during Fall Hours, which are Monday through Thursday, from 11am until 9pm; Friday, from 11am until 10pm; Saturday, from 9:30am until 10pm; and Sunday, from 9:30am until 9pm.
