Bethlehem Under Tornado Watch

Severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening in east central and Northeast Pennsylvania could be severe with locally heavy rain and flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for 28 eastern Pennsylvania counties—including Lehigh and Northampton—until 10 p.m. Thursday.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, beginning after 4 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half of an inch possible.

Forecasters are calling for more storms tonight, again with the chance of gusty winds, heaving rain and frequent lightning. Tonight, the chance of precipitation jumps to 90 percent tonight, with the potential for up to an inch of new rain possible. Local flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
