Major Pettigrew's Last Stand

The library's book group has started reading a romantic best-seller.

For July, our Books Alive Discussion Group is reading Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson. This is the author’s first novel. Her desire to write was inspired by her childhood home in the countryside of England, which was also home to such literary greats as Henry James, Rudyard Kipling and Virginia Woolf.

Helen Simonson penned a love story between Major Pettigrew and Mrs. Ali that is rich in humor, keeping the reader entertained throughout. Underlying the story are solid insights on many issues, including culture, race, age, religion, the generation gap and more. If you love British novels, this is for you.

‘My dear boy,’ said the Major. ‘Is there really any other kind?’”
