Six Things to Do This Weekend

Get happy at Oktoberfest at SteelStacks or scared by the ghosts of downtown Bethlehem.

This fall weekend's picks:

OKTOBERFEST (ARTSQUEST)

  • WHERE/WHEN: SteelStacks Campus, 101 Founders Way, South Side Bethlehem, Friday & Saturday, noon – midnight, and Sunday, noon – 9 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Get out your dirndl or lederhosen for a day out German Fest style at the SteelStacks. This authentic German Oktoberfest boasts German food, beer and music, including the Valley’s favorite—polka. Beyond beer, there is barrel racing, microbrew tasting, children’s activities and so much more.
  • PRICING: Admission, $8 advanced adult day pass/$10 at the gate; $20/$25 adult weekend pass, $3/$5 kids 6 – 12; kids 6 and under free. Discount admission available to Artsquest members.

FALL BENEFIT DINNER, DANCE AND SILENT AUCTION (HELLERTOWN AREA LIBRARY)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Meadows Banquet Hall, 1770 Meadows Road, Hellertown, Friday, 6 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Help support your local library and enjoy a night of dinner and dancing with DJ Tony C. Bid in the Silent Auction on passes to the Da Vinci Science Center, gift cards to Pelican Pools, a catered dinner at your home by Kasey Lynn's Catering, overnight Pocono stays and more.
  • PRICING: Tickets, $45 per person.

HUNT FOR HISTORY CLUB: HAUNTED BY HISTORY (HISTORIC BETHLEHEM PARTNERSHIP)

  • WHERE/WHEN: 1750 Smithy, Main and Church streets, Bethlehem, Saturday, noon – 4 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Watch the blacksmith make sparks fly over the forges in the recreated 1750 Smithy. Kids can create an ornament using similar techniques and take a walk to God’s Acre, Bethlehem’s oldest cemetery, to find the gravestones of the city’s late, great 18th-century blacksmiths.
  • PRICING: Children FREE with paid adult admission of $7.

 

HISTORIC HAUNTS OF DOWNTOWN BETHLEHEM (MORAVIAN BOOK SHOP)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Moravian Book Shop, 428 Main St., Bethlehem, Saturday, 6:30 p.m., tours run every 15 minutes with the last tour departing at 7:45 p.m.
  • WHY GO: If you don’t believe that Bethlehem is haunted, take the hour tour and find out what apparitions roam the Downtown. This guided tour through the dark streets will reveal the paranormal activity in Historic Bethlehem.
  • PRICING: Tickets, $13/adult, $10/child under 13. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are recommended. Call for details, 610-866-5481.

 

THE FLYING KARAMAZOV BROTHERS (ZOELLNER ARTS CENTER)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Zoellner Arts Center, 420 E. Packer Ave., Bethlehem, Sunday, 3 p.m. (2 p.m. Lobby Show).
  • WHY GO: Comedy and juggling in a kilt and, at times, pink tutus. The FKB will astound audiences of all ages with their skills and invite the audience to bring an object to challenge their juggling skills in a trick they call “The Gamble,” for obvious reasons.  
  • PRICING: Tickets, Adults, $23-$30; Seniors, $21-$27; Children (5- 17), $18-$23.

 

KIDS FALL FILM FESTIVAL (RAVE MOTION PICTURES PROMENADE 16 MOVIE THEATER)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Rave Motion Pictures Promenade 16 Movie Theater, Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley, 2845 Center Valley Parkway, Center Valley, Saturday, 10:30 a.m.
  • WHY GO: Take your kids or the whole neighborhood for the dollar movie. The first in a series of five Saturday movies is HOP, the story of a wayward rabbit who isn’t quite ready to take over the family business, which just happens to be Easter. 
  • PRICING: Admission $1, save $1 on Rave’s Movie Meal.
