Highland games, mind-blowing music, community festivals and a taste of Broadway in Bethlehem

Here are Patch's picks of fun things to do in the area this weekend:

 

CELTIC CLASSIC, HIGHLAND GAMES AND FESTIVAL (CELTIC CULTURAL ALLIANCE)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Main Street and the festival area between Conestoga Road & Lehigh Street, Bethlehem; Friday, 4pm to 11pm; Saturday, 9:30am to 11pm, and Sunday, 9:30am to 8pm.
  • WHY GO: Haggis, bagpipers, whiskey and beer, not to mention the awesome lineup of entertainment that features traditional Irish, Celtic Rock and everything in between. A three-day celebration of Celtic culture and history with competitions, demonstrations, dancing and piping.
  • PRICING: Free admission. Shuttle available for $4 per day, $2 for children under 10.

 

SOLAS (MORAVIAN COLLEGE, FOY HALL)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Foy Hall, Church and Main streets, Bethlehem, Saturday, 8:30pm to 10pm.
  • WHY GO: This band will blow your mind. Pioneers of Irish folk music in the U.S., Solas is one of the most popular, influential and exciting Celtic bands. The band McPeake will open at 6:30pm.

9th ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL ()

  • WHERE/WHEN: Lower Milford Township Municipal Building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road, Saturday 10am to 5pm.
  • WHY GO: You could go just to see the alpacas and the Wahoo Medicine Show and Phydeaux’s Flying Flea Circus, but there is so much more. A silent auction, live music, pedal car races for the kids, free carriage rides and all the country cooking that one community could muster will make this a special community event.   
  • PRICING: FREE!

 

COMMUNITY DAY (SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Silver Creek Athletic Association, 2943 Route 212, Springtown, Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
  • WHY GO: Kettle Korn, balloon animals, a dunking tank and more family fun. Canine good citizenship testing, a community yard sale, a Fun Run and a silent auction are just some of the planned events.
  • PRICING: Free admission. Canine testing and AKC registration: $28.

 

ADAM PASCAL AND ANTHONY RAPP (ARTSQUEST)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Musikfest Cafe, First Street & Founders Way, Bethlehem, Friday, 7:30pm.
  • WHY GO: Broadway veterans from the production of "Rent," Pascal and Rapp will sing tunes from "Rent," share their adventures as co-stars of the hit musical and perform material from their individual musical careers. 
  • PRICING: Tickets, $54 Balcony/$39 Cabaret

 

CORYELL, AUGER, SAMPLE TRIO/ROBIN KANI & MARTHA SCHREMPEL (ZOELLNER ARTS CENTER)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Zoellner Arts Center, 420 E. Packer Ave., Bethlehem, Friday, 7pm and 9pm, Sunday, 3pm.
  • WHY GO: Fusion, rock and funk blended together make for an excellent Friday Night with the Trio. On Sunday, Zoellner welcomes Robin Kani on flute and Martha Schrempel on the piano for an afternoon of French music.
  • PRICING: Tickets, Friday, $27, cash bar; Sunday, $10.
