Musikfest Today: Five Things to Know

Day 3 will start out wet, but the weather should improve by the time iCarly takes the stage.

Good morning, Bethlehem. Today is Sunday, August 7, 2011 – Day Three of Musikfest 2011.

  1. Today starts out looking a lot like Saturday – very wet. Flash flood warnings issued by the National Weather Service are in effect until 6:30 a.m. Judging by some of your tweets, we know Volksplatz was a pretty muddy mosh pit for the Red Elvises on Saturday night. It probably won’t be any drier there today. Rain is expected again into the afternoon, but the chance of precipitation diminishes as we head toward the evening. If you have tickets to take the kids to see iCarly at the Sands Steel Stage, you have a better chance of staying dry than those who saw Maroon 5 on Saturday night.
  2. Go to church at Musikfest. Worship services are planned at 10 a.m. at three different platzes: a Christian service at Festplatz; a Tri-Lingual Catholic Mass at Plaza Tropical; and a “contemporary worship service” at Banana Island.
  3. Get brunch with bossa nova singer/songwriter Avi Wisnia at the Musikfest Café, starting at noon. Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for kids. At 7 p.m., legendary jazz and fusion guitarist Al Di Meola takes the Musikfest Café stage. Tickets are $49 and $39.
  4. Miranda Cosgrove, the star of television’s iCarly, is your headliner at the Sands Steel Stage starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, at $35 and $25 are still available.
  5. If you’re looking for a good free platz to hang out tonight, we recommend either Americaplatz or Volksplatz, where the Red Elvises play an encore performance starting at 9 p.m. Diego’s Umbrella, which describes itself as Mexi-Cali-gypsy-pirate-polka, will warm up the most-likely muddy crowd at 7 p.m. At Americaplatz, Christine Ohlman, a blues chanteuse who wears a mile-high platinum beehive hairdo, takes the stage at 7 p.m. She is followed by repeat ‘festers Los Straitjackets, who play surf music while sporting Mexican wrestling masks. Here's the full day's schedule.
