Musikfest Today: Five Things to Know

Don Cunningham, Steely Dan and the Serbian queen of the blues will all be 'festing tonight.

Good morning, ‘festers. Today is Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011 – Day Six of Musikfest.

  1. It’s hard to believe, but we are now at the midway point of the best party of the year in the Lehigh Valley. With all the to this year’s festival, we’d like to know what you think. If you’ve got a few minutes, give us a shout in the comment section of this story and let us know what you love – and what you don’t.
  2. The weather should be much better today than it has been during the first half of the festival. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high of 86 degrees. Even better, the service says the next chance of rain isn’t until Saturday night.
  3. This will be a big night for local singer Lori Donovan and guitarist Jeff Roberts. Not only will they play a gig at Liederplatz at 7pm, but – right in front of the Musikfest beer mug-toting public – about an hour into the show. Yes. You are all invited. Mayor John Callahan officiates at the ceremony.
  4. If weddings give you the heebie-jeebies, there are plenty of other great free stage options to check out. A pretty good party is planned at Americaplatz, where Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham & His Cabinet (starring Bethlehem Township Assistant Manager Doug Bruce) play an entertaining set of classic rock covers starting at 5:30pm. Funk band Mingo Fishtrap follows at 7pm. The night ends with Ana Popovic at 9pm. The Serbian queen of the blues plays guitar like the big boys, but she certainly doesn’t look like one of them. 5. Can’t buy a thrill? The classic rock duo of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, better known as Steely Dan, takes the Sands Steel Stage at 7pm. Tickets at $69 and $49 are still available.
