Great Escape: Off to God’s Country for the Weekend

Exploring Potter County and adventures in the great outdoors.

All of this rain has been good for the greenery but, it does tend to put a damper on weekend plans.  Still, there is a place one can go to enjoy green landscapes, outdoor activities and freshly blooming flowers—Potter County, or, as the locals call it, “God’s Country.”

With babbling brooks and song birds creating a symphony outside your window, the smell of fresh greenery awakening your senses to spring and the majestic view of the blue sky resting peacefully on the mountain range, it’s a little piece of heaven.

As a precaution, I did check the weather forecast for this weekend, and, although it will be cloudy with a chance of rain, as they say in Potter County, "if you don't like the weather in Potter County just wait a few minutes, it'll change."

There will be plenty of time to play in between rain drops and the benefit of having a quiet and tranquil setting to enjoy your weekend filled with outdoor adventures in Susquehannock State Forest.

Situated in the heart of this divine scenery, Kettle Creek Adventures provides the down home hospitality of a ma and pa bed and breakfast with hosts Dave and Brenda Cardellino attending to your needs.  With access to a variety of outdoor adventures, fishing, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, hiking or biking on the many trails that are virtually outside your door should be on your to-do list.

The handmade log beds, stone fireplaces and wildlife décor of the lodge provide a rustic and romantic feel for a weekend get a way and the added touch of a porch swing and wrap around deck is perfect for quality relaxation.  Retreat to the privacy or your room, or join others in the living room or around the outdoor fire pit swapping stories best inspired by the fresh night air and a bottle of wine.

Take a trip to God’s country—rest, relax and enjoy spring’s rebirth as you experience the adventures of the great outdoors. Your spirit will thank you.
