Free Musikfest Performers Roster Released

Buckwheat Zydeco, Southern Culture on the Skids and Gangstagrass to be among those who play at festival's 13 free stages, along with local and returning favorites.

ArtsQuest has released a partial roster of musical artists who will be performing on Musikfest’s 13 free stages during the 30th annual festival, which will run from Aug. 2 to 11 in Historic Downtown Bethlehem and the SteelStacks campus.

Among the nationally known acts who will be gracing the free concert stages will be North Carolina rockers Southern Culture on the Skids, hip-hop fusion sensation Gangstagrass and Louisiana musical treasure Buckwheat Zydeco, who will perform at Volksplatz on Aug. 7.

ArtsQuest is also touting an appearance by Holly Williams, the daughter of Hank Williams Jr., who has received critical acclaim for her recent release, The Highway.

As usual, the roster includes a mix of popular local musicians— including Bev Conklin, Craig Thatcher and Dina Hall—and others who have become popular repeat visitors to Musikfest, such as Igor & The Red Elvises, Here Come the Mummies and Los Straitjackets.

The list of the more than 260 performers confirmed so far is available at www.musikfest.org/lineup-2013.php. Additional acts, including the last four headlining performers, will be announced later this spring.

The festival will kick off on Aug. 2 with a performance by folk music luminary and former Bethlehem citizen John Gorka, who played and sang the very first notes at the very first Musikfest in 1984.

Gorka will be a part of the opening ceremonies at Americaplatz at the Levitt Pavilion and later play a show at the Musikfest Café.

Six of the 10 main stage shows have already been announced. They are:

  • Carly Rae Jepsen—Aug. 2
  • OneRepublic with Mayer Hawthorne and Churchill—Aug. 3
  • Styx & Foreigner—Aug. 7
  • Darius Rucker—Aug. 9
  • Ke$ha—Aug. 10
