Four Family-Friendly St. Patrick's Day Events

Here are great places to take the kids for holiday enjoyment.

St. Patrick's Day is a wonderful celebration, but for the kids, green beer and car bombs aren't an option. So, here are four family-friendly activities that mesh with the theme of the day -- and week:

You can always follow the rainbow to Crayola Factory for kid-friendly events, and this St. Patrick’s Day is no different. Guests can make their own leprechaun hats during their Thursday visit and take advantage of the Factory’s regular offerings. If you can’t make it on the actual holiday don’t worry; the craft is available through Sunday.

2. Irish Storytelling at the Parkland Library

Juilene Osborne-McKnight, author of novels like Song of Ireland and Bright Sword of Ireland, will be featured during the library’s Irish Storytelling Hour at 7 p.m. Thursday. She will be available for discussion, questions and signings of her books. Make your reservations before the event fills up; call 610-398-1361.

3.

This St. Patty’s promotion is going to require you to go green. Pick out your favorite green piece of clothing and head over to Color Me Mine, located in the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley. You’ll get 50 percent off a regular sitting fee, regularly $9 for adults and $6 for children. The location offers a variety of customizable pieces, including banks, mugs, plates, and plaques ranging from $5 to $5. Not only will you save a pot of gold by taking advantage of this deal, but you’ll get to design the pot, too!

4. Allentown St. Patrick’s Day Parade

There may only be one day dedicated to St. Patrick, but Allentown certainly turns the holiday into a weeklong affair, with events like the annual 5K run, bar crawl, and even a ‘Best Legs in a Kilt’ contest. With so many events, there really is something to suit every member of the family. But after you’ve run yourself ragged and sampled some green beer, bring your family (and kilt) out to the 54th annual Allentown St. Patrick’s Day Parade Sunday.
