Enjoy the Spooky Season at Shocktoberfest

October brings with it the haunted happenings of Halloween, and those who are unafraid to search for ghosts need look no further than Shocktoberfest, a spook-tacular seasonal extravaganza located at 94 Park Avenue in Sinking Spring, Berks County.

Located just outside Reading, Shocktoberfest has been a choice destination for those who revel in a good fright for the last 20 years, and has been ranked one of the top haunted events in the U.S. 

Visitors can choose from up to four interactive adventures and attractions on the Monster Midway, including the Prison of the Dead and the Biohazard Hayride.

With 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor "haunt space," the Prison of the Dead is one of the biggest haunted houses in the country. It's so big in fact, that visitors need to travel on a "prison bus" just to reach it.

The Biohazard Hayride is a long-time favorite, taking visitors on a bumpy ride deep in the haunted woods. Hold on tight, because it isn’t just the bumps that will get you--the 20-foot worms and other creatures that come out after dark can be hazardous to your health.

New for this season is an attraction which pairs light and sound effects with animatronics and live actors to exploit everyone’s worst fear — The Unknown.

The tree-lined Monster Midway offers visitors a place to enjoy (if they haven't lost their appetites) some favorite treats, such as fresh cut french fries, funnel cake, burgers and steak sandwiches. Carnival games are also available.

Finally, those in the mood for music can hang out in Club Shock, which is where the demons, ghouls and vampires who live at Shocktoberfest like to boogie after dark. In addition to dancing, the club features contests with prizes.

Ticket booth hours are 7pm to 9pm Sundays and Thursdays, and 7pm to 10pm Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $15 for a single adventure, $26 for a double adventure and $34 for an all-access pass. For an extra $15, visitors can acquire a R.I.P. Pass that puts them at the head of the line. Payment is by cash only, and coupons are available online.

Shocktoberfest runs through Nov. 6 and is open rain or shine. It is not recommended for children under the age of 6.
