Flash Flood Watch Extended to 8 p.m. Tuesday

Heavy rain could cause flashing flooding Tuesday across the Lehigh Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

A Lehigh Valley flash flood watch has been extended until 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. The watch was originally supposed to expire at 10 p.m. Monday.

Storms capable of producing torrential rain are anticipated Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Accuweather says, "Due to the substantial rainfall in recent weeks, it will not take much rainfall to cause flash flooding. With the ground saturated with water, just an inch of water in less than a three-hour period of time can lead to flash flooding."

Drivers should stay alert for road closings and small streams overflowing.

Last week, storms across the East produced widespread flooding and wind damage. Recent rains made it the wettest June on record for Philadelphia and Wilmington.
