Local Residents Qualify for SteelFit Championships Finals

Terrance Hammons and Brandon Sauers competed at the Morristown Qualifier this past Saturday and were named finalists for the Super SteelFit Championships.

The SuperFit Championships, a series of intense qualifying fitness competitions leading up to the championship on the Jersey Shore, held its final qualifier at the Morristown National Guard Armory on Saturday, May 11th.

With all the athletes contending to advance to the championship at Jenkinson’s Beach on June 22nd, the competitive atmosphere was apparent during the three different fitness events, which included a timed burpee-box jump and slam ball workout, a clean and jerk ladder, and a timed overhead squat and double under workout.

“SuperFit was my first ever CrossFit competition so I'm really excited about the outcome. I had so much fun and all the athletes that came out are just so inspiring to be around,” said Rachel Syko, the Women’s Scaled winner, of CrossFit KOA in Cranford. “Being able to compete at Jenkinson's I think is going to be awesome. I'm really looking forward to it and I'm even more excited to show spectators who might not know what CrossFit is, what it is all about and hopefully one day they can love the sport just as much as I do.”

SuperFit will announce wild card entries for the championship in the next week. So while some athletes might not have qualified the day of the event, they still have the chance to qualify.

SuperFit also raised money this weekend for the Wounded Warrior Project and the Jersey Coast Red Cross, the two main charitable beneficiaries of the SuperFit Championships.

The official sponsors for the SuperFit Championships included the New Jersey Army National Guard, Skechers, JAG Physical Therapy, Phase III Recovery, GNC, Nick’s Sticks, B12 Energy Gummies, Nirvana Natural Spring Water, and Nutcase Crunch. In addition, there were also representatives from Maximum Human Performance (MHP), Heavy Athletics Nutrition, Body Fortress, Powerful Yogurt, North Jersey Orthopedic Group, Jack-EE-Boyz Equipment, and Paleo Cuisine.

The championship will be held on the beach at Jenkinson’s Boardwalk on Saturday, June 22nd with the final ‘SuperFitters’ competing for a $7,000 prize purse.
