CONSHOHOCKEN, PA – February 19, 2014 – Firstrust Bank announced the winners of its second annual Philly’s Business First Awards.  The awards were created to shine a spotlight on local businesses making a positive difference in the community as nominated and voted on by the public.

This year’s contest, which garnered more than 5,000 votes from the public highlighted an impressive group of local small businesses with 535 businesses nominated for their exemplary business values.  The grand prize winner receives $15,000 and additional prizes of $5,000 and $1,000 will be awarded to nine other winners.  All prizes are to be split with the business’s charity of choice.

“The nominations we received exceeded our expectations,” said Richard J. Green, CEO and Vice Chairman of Firstrust Bank. “The commitment of all the nominees toward community service, honesty and customer service, among many other values, is truly remarkable. This contest further illustrates that small businesses are not only the backbone of the region’s business economy, but are also its community support engine. It is an honor for Firstrust to recognize them and support their continued success.”

This year’s grand prize winner, Zarwin Baum DeVito Kaplan Schaer Toddy P.C., a Philadelphia law firm, has dedicated itself to non-profit organizations serving the needs of children and their families in Philadelphia and the region. The firm was recognized for its professional service, personable staff and its significant community support. In the spirit of community support, Zarwin Baum will donate its entire $15,000 prize to Fresh Smiles Foundation, an organization that works to foster the development and growth of children whose lives have been adversely impacted by financial roadblocks.

“We are pleased to announce that we will donate our entire $15,000 prize to an organization we believe in deeply, the Fresh Smiles Foundation.  The work they are doing in our local communities is inspiring,” said Gary DeVito, Zarwin Baum Shareholder and Founder of Fresh Smiles Foundation. “We know the money will go a long way to breaking down financial barriers and helping children in our area utilize their talent or skills to recognize a better future for themselves.”

“The fact that, without hesitation, Zarwin Baum decided to donate 100% of its prize money comes as no surprise,” said Mr. Green. “The firm was in large part recognized for its significant commitment to community service, and they now serve as an example to others in the business community about the importance of giving back.”

Winners will be honored at a reception and ceremony on Wednesday, February 26 at the Firstrust Branch located at 555 City Avenue, Philadelphia, PA.
