Wednesday: Summer Festival Starts, Free Movie at Levitt

Celebration of Alfred Hitchcock's birthday also continues at SteelStacks.

Good morning, Bethlehem. Today is Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013.

The National Weather Service says we are in for a great day, with mostly sunny skies, a northwest wind and a high of 76 degrees.

It should be a pleasant day for some outdoor activities, including the Muhlenberg Summer Festival, which begins its four-night run at 5 p.m. at the Lehigh Valley Hospital campus in West Bethlehem.

Free movie night at the Levitt Pavilion at SteelStacks returns tonight at 8 with An American Tail, the 1980s animated feature about a young mouse named Fievel and his family’s immigration from Russia to the United States.

It’s story time at the Cops ‘n’ Kids Reading Room at Northampton Community College’s Fowler Family Southside Center, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The room will remain open to families until 7 p.m. for children and families to read together, share stories, and select a free book to take home. The Cops ‘n’ Kids Reading Room is located on the fourth floor, room 403, Northampton Community College Fowler Family Southside Center.

Is there something you can, or should, do about it? OAA Orthopedic Specialists in Bethlehem Township will host a free seminar to help tackle some of these questions at 12:15 p.m.

East Stroudsburg University’s Bethlehem campus at 60 W. Broad St., hosts a free roundtable discussion on “Basic Steps in Securing Your Home Computer" with Prof. N. Paul Schembari, and “The Affordable Care Act in Pennsylvania" with Prof. Alberto Cardelle. Discussion gets under way at 6:30 p.m.

Finally, the celebration of filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock’s birthday continues at the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas in the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks with the 1954 suspense thriller Rear Window. Stars Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly explore the ethics of voyeurism. Did Lars Thorwald (played by Raymond Burr before he became known for playing Perry Mason) really murder his wife? Movie time is 7:15. Tickets are $10, less for students, seniors and ArtsQuest members.
