Wanna Get Lucky With a Casino Job: Tuesday in Bethlehem

Rain, maybe a thunderstorm is likely. Alfred Hitchcock celebrated at the Banko. Glenn Danzig rocks at the Sands.

Good morning, Bethlehem. Today is Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013.

The National Weather Services says we are likely to see showers today with a forecast high temperature of 80 degrees. A thunderstorm with heavy downpours and gusty winds is also possible.

Northampton Community College’s Fowler Family SouthSide Center will host an interactive session on casino careers from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A new career in the casino industry can be launched with 12 weeks of training or less.

On this day, 114 years ago, a genius of cinema was born in England. Alfred Hitchcock deserves much of the credit for techniques used by today’s film directors, particularly in the suspense and thriller genres.

Many of his films remain classics, including Psycho, The Birds, North by Northwest and Vertigo, a personal favorite.

The Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas in the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks celebrate Hitch this week by showing three of his classics on successive evenings.

Tonight, the film is Strangers on a Train.

The plot: “A psychotic socialite confronts a pro tennis star with a theory on how two complete strangers can get away with murder ... a theory that he plans to implement.”

The film shows at 7:15. Tickets are $10, less for students, seniors and ArtsQuest members.

Have some family fun at either branch of the Bethlehem Public Library.

The South Side branch is hosting a beach party from 6:30 to 7:30 with stories, music, games and ice cream sundaes.

The main branch hosts Family Fun Night at 7 p.m. with board games, cards and legos.

Hard rocker Glenn Danzig’s 25th anniversary tour makes a stop at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center at 8 p.m. Standing room general admission cost $25. Luxury seating costs $45 a ticket.
