Construction Slows Traffic in South Side: Your Wednesday

Also, sing along to The Sound of Music at SteelStacks or participate in improv comedy jam at Godfrey Daniels.

Expect traffic delays if your travels take you through Fourth or Fifth streets in South Bethlehem today and Thursday, city officials said.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane with flaggers between Pierce Street and Buchanan Street for a crane operation through Thursday.

On Fifth Street, a contractor will be working on the road near Hayes Street and Atlantic Street and will need to shift traffic to allow work to continue both days.

  • The SteelStacks will be alive … with the sound of people singing along to 1965 classic film “The Sound of Music,” at the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas. The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a live show in which your host will lead you through a vocal warm-up, judge the fancy dress competition and award the prizes. Costumes are not compulsory but they are recommended. The host will then show you how to use your free fun pack throughout the film and suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions (such as hissing the countess, barking at Rolf and, of course, cheering for Julie). Tickets are $17, less for students, seniors and ArtsQuest members.
  • Godfrey Daniels hosts the monthly improv comedy jam at 7:30 p.m. Come see The Flighty Ducks perform some long-form improv comedy, and then stick around to play with them in the improv comedy Jam. No acting or improv experience required, just step up on stage and make it up. Admission is free.
  • Friday marks the 50th anniversary of one of the darkest days in the nation’s history—the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Patch invites you to share your thoughts, memories and recollections of that day in a community blog here.
