We may have dodged a bullet with the the National Weather Service scaling back its snow forecast for Bethlehem as New England gets the brunt of a major winter storm.

Bethlehem Area School District dismissed students two hours early Friday. School events and activities for Friday afternoon and evening were cancelled.

In the metropolitan New York area and parts of New England, storm total snowfall accumulations of one to two feet are possible, with locally higher amounts, especially near the coast.

In addition, wind gusts as high as 70 mph are possible, creating blizzard conditions that will make travel hazardous, if not impossible, the weather service says.
