Robbery Attempt Turns to Shootout on Livingston St.
Now in jail on outstanding bench warrant, robbery victim fended off attackers with a 9 mm handgun, according to police.
Two robbers may have gotten more than they bargained for when their attempted theft turned into a shootout with their intended victim, according to Bethlehem police.
The victim, identified in this Express Times story as Dean Ocasio, told police that two men tried to rob him of his cell phone and necklace on the 1200 block of Livingston Stret early Sunday morning, at about 3:30 a.m., police said.
One of the robbers was armed with a shotgun, but Ocasio was armed with a 9 mm pistol and shot at, but apparently did not hit, his assailants, police said.
Ocasio had to be treated for injuries to his face and ribs at St. Luke’s University Hospital before he was taken into custody and to Northampton County Prison on an outstanding bench warrant, police said.
One of Ocasio’s assailants was described as about 6 feet tall with a medium build and wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with blue letters FUBU on it and a bandana over his face. There was no description of the second attacker, police said.
