Ride Will Pay Tribute to Fallen Bicyclist

The Patrick Ytsma Ride of Respect will be made through the streets of city on December 22.

Cyclists will make a group ride around the city of Bethlehem next week to pay tribute to a city man who died as a result of injuries suffered in cycling accident earlier this month.

The Patrick Ytsma Ride of Respect will take place at 7 p.m. December 22. The ride will end at Payrow Plaza with a remembrance of all the contributions Ytsma made to bicycle advocacy.

The ride will also include a brief stop and moment of silence on the Philip J. Fahy Bridge where Ytsma suffered fatal injuries when his bicycle was struck by a car on December 4. Ytsma died of those injuries at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill four days later.

Bethlehem Police will escort riders along the route, which will include Main, Broad and New streets. Riders will gather and begin the ride at a parking lot at Main and W. Lehigh streets. Participants are asked to arrive by 6:30 p.m.

The ride is being sponsored by the Coalition for Alternative Transportation. For more information, call CAT at 610-954-5744 or e-mail at cat@car-free.org.

7 pm? Let us all hope that there are no elderly or other compromised drivers out at that time!

This will be a very heartfelt event! Patrick Ytsma RIP.
