Police: SouthSide Woman Beats Man with Fists, Tools

A South Bethlehem woman is charged with using a man’s tools – including a metal rod, a metal bolt cutter and a screwdriver – to hit and stab him during an apparent shakedown for money at his home on Thursday, according to court records.

April Sue Cayer, 24, of 909 Laufer St., also allegedly punched her victim, Michael Thompson, in the face numerous times before walking out of his house with his metal lug nut wrench, the arrest affidavit says.

Thompson told police that Cayer began to send him text messages early in the day, asking him if he had any money for her. Thompson said he told her he would try to get her some.

It was unclear from the affidavit why Thompson owed Cayer money.

Cayer, who is 5-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs 120 pounds, showed up at Thompson’s home at 630 Ontario St. at 2:40 p.m.

Then, according to the affidavit:

• Cayer asked Thompson for money. He gave her $5.
• Cayer then followed Thompson into his kitchen and asked him for his cell phone. She took the cell phone and began to delete items from it. The affidavit did not say what kind of items she was deleting.
• Thompson asked for his phone back, but Cayer declined. He then grabbed the phone back and Cayer began punching Thompson in the face and starting pushing him toward his home’s back door.
• Thompson keeps numerous tools near the back door and Cayer began to grab some of them and assault him with them. First Cayer took a metal rod and hit Thompson in the head with it, causing a bump and redness.
• Cayer grabbed a metal bolt cutter and hit Thompson in the left leg. She took a screwdriver and stabbed Thompson in the left arm, causing a 1-inch laceration.
• Cayer smashed several dishes, then grabbed a metal lug nut wrench and slammed it into the kitchen sink, causing damage. Cayer then punched Thompson in the face and walked out of the house, still carrying the wrench. Before walking out, Cayer told Thompson she was going to get a man who lives down the street to “beat his ass.”

Cayer was charged with two counts of robbery and one count of aggravated assault, all felonies; two counts of simple assault, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.

She was arraigned Friday before and committed to Northampton County Prison after failing to post $125,000 bail.
