Police: Baby Abducted From Lehigh Valley Hospital, Returned

Allentown Police stopped a vehicle and returned a baby to Lehigh Valley Hospital after receiving a report that a small child had been taken 'against medical advice,' Salisbury police said.

Allentown Police returned a baby to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest neonatal intensive care unit Tuesday after it was apparently abducted earlier in the day, according to a press release from the Salisbury Township Police Department.

Meanwhile, police are looking for a 10-month-old girl who was abducted Oct. 22 from her apartment in King of Prussia and for the killer of her 61-year-old grandmother whose body was found in the apartment.

According to the Salisbury Township Police Department press release:

"The Salisbury Township Police Department was dispatched to the Lehigh Valley Health Network, Cedar Crest facility, in response to a report of a child abduction. The Salisbury Police received a complaint from hospital security reporting that a small child has been taken from the Hospital 'against medical advice,' and that the involved persons were last observed leaving the area in a dark colored [GMC] Denali vehicle.

"Initial reports indicated that the involved persons may be traveling to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

"The Pennsylvania State Police, Allentown Police, Lehigh County Sheriff’s Department, and Lehigh County Children and Youth were notified. The Allentown Police Department observed the involved vehicle and was able to stop it in the area of 7th and Hamilton streets in the city. The child was returned to the Lehigh Valley Health Network Hospital unharmed and was readmitted to the NICU. The involved persons were interviewed and released a short time later.

"This incident is under investigation with the office of Lehigh County Children and Youth.

"The Salisbury Township Police Department would like to thank all agencies involved, and would also like to thank Lehigh County Radio for their assistance and quick release of information to area agencies."

So the parents wanted to take their child somewhere else for treatment. Wow great journalism! Maybe the enquirer is hiring you could have a future there! Disgraceful!

Yeah really. The fact that the "involved individuals" were interviewed and released a short time later, indicates that it wasn't abduction. Get your shit together patch.

Media hype and sensationalism at its best. The parents have a right to seek treatment else ware if they so desire. More Obama socialism - big brother knows best.

How can a parent be accused of abducting their child from a hospital in this type of situation? I am not comfortable at all with the fact that the hospital corporation has so much power over everyone that the taxpayer paid agencies intercept an attempt to reach a different hospital for better (CHOP Rules) treatment. I hope chidren and youth aren't in the hospital's pocket, too. LV hospital should send the baby to CHOP in an ambulance if the guardian's want the child there. Weird.

The hospital will send the child to CHOP if it is medically necessary or if the parent wishes, however, most insurance companies will not pay for transport if it's not medically necessary. My guess is these people were upset over something minor and demanded transport, which they could not afford. So why should the insurance company/medicaid pay for a transport just because they are unhappy? That would be wasting healthcare dollars, which you and I are both paying.

Clearly many people have no idea of the possible liabilities and risk to the child as being a primary reason to not allow parents or whoever for whatever reason decide they can put that child's life in danger! Correct procedures must be followed and are for the benefit of the child regardless of the responsible misguided guardians unilateral decision to take the risk of not following prudent and safe guidelines by the experts in the healthcare profession. I have been involved in a situation where a genetic birth defect was a threat to the life and well being of the new born who was provided helicopter transport to CHOP from an Allentown Hospital with proper trained medical staff in attendance. All proper advice and care was taken working "with" the local Allentown hospital and that child is living a long and healthy life today!

IT does NOT matter!!! The matter of fact is the parents wanted to take their child somewhere else. They should have that RIGHT!!!!! It's their kid!!! Plain and simple!!!! End of story!!!! No body has the right to tell me what I can and can not do for/to my child..... The people of this Country have gotten so use to depending on everyone but themselves... And patch don't sit there and say a child got abducted when in fact the parents were doing what they felt was the better decision for their child.... and shame on you LVHHN for standing in the parents way.... Remember this just because a person has a PHD and says their a doctor DOES NOT MEAN THEY KNOW BETTER. I believe now-a-days it's all about the money... It's a damn shame the world has come to this..... GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!! In God We Trust and GOD We Need you more then ever!!!! The police state wins in this case. Vote for freedom first!!!!

Bruce no one is saying the child wasn't going to receive additional care including it's abductors aka the child's parents. The problem is with the slant of how the stories headline is written. Who knows what is best for a child other than it's abductors/parents? "Correct procedures must be followed and are for the benefit of the child" <-- spoken like a true socialist. Who is to decide what is correct for ones own child, the parents maybe? Another perfect example of the state having/taking control of it's law abiding citizens lives. As for rour example with the chopper ride. "The child is living a long and healthy life today!" Is the child living in a cardboard box due to the hundreds of thousands in hospital bills rung up by frivolous activities of a hospitals actions like helicopter rides? There have been others in the past who knew what was best for it's citizens too. Back off the parents (see abductors) should have the final say about their child PERIOD!

I have to wonder if they abducted the child did they try to go through the proper channels and denied moving their child. If those parents were released shortly after there is more to this story than we are being told.

My next stop after being released would be an attorneys office. And God forbid that child should suffer any medical disasters while in the hospitals care. I can see that lawsuit list a mile long. And for good reasons.

We need a commercial on TV where the people yell...its my money and I want it now!...but for our rights and freedoms as parents and people. Becoming reliant on a government for everything will be the biggest fatal flaw to what little is left of this nation. Period.

There are so many ticks to this story and everyone of them against the authorities. Here are some alternate headlines for this article. "Hospital uses legal means to force a child to remain in their care...racking up heatlh care costs for the parents (or the taxpayer)". "Hospital calls police to take "their side" against free-willing parents moving their child to another health care facility...big brother helps big brother...crushes parents freedom of choice". Its funny that a parent is "legally" responsible for their child all the way until the defined age of 18. But...when a parent does make a decision big brother does not like, they are "detained" from making that decision. Welcome to the United States of the Middle East where men use to be men and could make decisions for their family and the government knew their boundaries. I can see over the years that boundary has become skewed as more and more people for one reason or another have become beholding to a government, or rather the government has caused them to become beholding...and it now wants to make decisions it HAS NO RIGHT to make decisions on. What will it take to put government back where it belongs? What will it take? This country is really beginning to slide faster and faster down the sh1t-hole greedy men have created. Moving to another nation as many have suggested...why? THOSE nations are coming here!!!

The babies parents have rights too, and causing such a ruckus is unbelievable, after showing proof of being the parents, this episode should of been disposed of, instead of embarrassing them. What's with the headlines, come on now! You need to advertise more articles due to advertise, Get a job worthy of yourself and stop picking on the wrong people who have every right to remove their child and take him/her wherever they want, IT IS THEIR CHILD, I am sure they know what is best for their own child, if they make a mistake, then you can condemn them.

Many people going crazy over individual rights here! But if the child had died due to the parents actions the same people would be going "OMG how could those parents do that to their child." Also, remember you can't take people off "life support" with out proper legal authority. Medical doctors have more powers than people know and it didn't just happen yesterday and for many, many good reasons. You don't get to make these decisions over a certified Medical team just by writing an five minute opinion on an article where the child was taken from a "neonatal intensive care unit". There are consequences. People don't like a lot of laws. Just read about a parent who was in an car accident in Hellertown with an unrestrained infant who was suffered a head injury and had marijuana in her car and left the scene of the accident with the child. She didn't like the laws for her child's protection either. I wasn't impressed with her neglect and right to endanger her child. I truly hope that child didn't suffer irreversible brain damage. Unfortunately that parent is now in jail. I'm sure someone will stand up for her too here on this blog.

Really? You're going to compare a pot smoking parent to this? You're correct people should go crazy when your rights are taken away.. It's been long over due, it's a great thing people are starting to realize and are waking up to this thing called government... They've been bulling us long enough..... NO MORE!!!!! I and a lot of other people are fed up with the BS.... and a lot of laws on the books are there to control us not to protect like a lot of people think. Money - Control - Power is all that matters.... I said it before and I'm gonna say it again, just because you have a PHD DOES NOT mean you know better.... and if the child did in fact die (GOD forbid) that is something the parents have to live with. It should still be their choice!!!! bottom line their child, their choice!!!

My problem is with the journalizim... The patch making it seem like a situation, it is not. Parents apparently took the child out of the hospital, for whatever reason... That is NOT an "abduction" that is parents who took "action" whether it was for "good or bad" reasons... I understand that medically it may supercede what the parents wanted to do. Point being that if both parents were involved they did not "abduct the child for malicious reasons" which this articticle tries to portray. Due to the the more recent amber alerts in the tri state area..

Also Bruce... a medical team does have a lot of power, but they can be wrong as well. That is why it's a persons right to get second and third opinions. Unfortunately some LVH doctors seem to think they are god and don't care what the patient or their families concerns are. I can say this from experiences I've had at the cedar crest blvd location, with doctors in one of their intensive care units. I wish I could have taken my family member out of "Cedar Crest LVH Intensive care unit" They might just still be here today!!
