The ceremony, which celebrated the 75th anniversary of Bethlehem promoting itself as “The Christmas City” by the Chamber of Commerce, also included music by the Bethlehem Catholic High School Band and the Liberty High School A Capella Choir.
Third-graders from Miller Heights Elementary School and St. Anne’s Elementary School joined Callahan at the podium to throw the switch that lit all the trees on Payrow Plaza.
The Christmas City Tree on Payrow Plaza was donated by Paul and Sandy Gillette of East Allen Township. The Hill-to-Hill Bridge Christmas Tree was donated by Bob and Carol Shear of Bethlehem Township, and the Mayor’s Christmas Tree on Payrow Plaza was donated by Bernard Spirk of Bethlehem Township.

Bethlehem is sad, we call it a Christmas city, we should be a shamed to say that, tons of trees not put up, only half of the Christmas decorations up, I know thing are tight up really! There are way more smaller towns with ten times greater things up for Christmas. I have seen 34 years of. Bethlehem trees and this is the saddest yet we should have the Christmas city name taken away really
