OMG PD: 5 Women Punched Cop in Bethlehem

According to court records, 5 women punched officer in the head while he tried to make arrest on E. Third St. early last Saturday. One from Allentown is charged with aggravated assault.

A group of women attacked a Bethlehem police officer trying to make an arrest early last Saturday on the SouthSide.

In the end, an Allentown woman --  Barbara Cintron-Santiago, 24 -- was charged with punching an officer several times about the face and head.

Court records say nothing about other women being charged, including the woman the officer was trying to arrest.

The incident involving city Officer Louis D. Csaszar and others began around 3 a.m. when Csaszar saw another officer performing a field sobriety test on a male in the 200 block of E. Third St.

A group of people gathered, and Csaszar and another officer asked the group to leave, Csaszar said in a criminal complaint. A male refused and the other officer arrested him.

The complaint does not identify the male or list the charges against him. The complaint also said:

As Csaszar helped take the male into custody, four to six women gathered around the officers, who ordered them to leave. Several walked away but one remained and began screaming at Csaszar.

He asked her to leave three times and she refused, at one point walking up to him, starting to scream and saying she wasn’t leaving.

He then told her she was under arrest, grabbed her by the arm and told her again she was under arrest. Csaszar said the woman began to “physically fight with me.”

He ordered her to stop resisting and to place her hands behind her back. She refused, “so I took her to the ground,” Csaszar said.

As he was about to handcuff the woman with her hands behind her back, Cintron-Santiago “and about four other females” began to punch him in the back of the head and on the face.

Cintron-Santiago, of 1030 Colorado St., was taken into custody. She was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing the administration of law.

She was arraigned later Saturday by on-duty District Judge John Capobianco of Nazareth and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Yes citizens, you had better leave the area when the local blue-shirts tell you to disperse! They surely do not want you to observe the degradation and possible abuse of their detainees on a public thoroughfare. With the proliferation of mobile phone cameras, I wish someone would have thought to video this incident. Remember everyone: it is NOT illegal to take pictures and video of the police. Everyone should exercise this right, as I do, and let them know they are being watched.

Come on, a bunch of drunk or high Latina's go off on a Bethlehem Police Officer and you think it is the cops fault? Spend some time in South Bethlehem when the bars and clubs are closing and see what the cops are dealing with, maybe then your comments won't sound so stupid.

I agree, Mary Anne. The law is the law. They were wrong. They interfered where they should not have. This is not a grey area, it's very black and white.

No edit feature :(

Further, I don't think it matters what the race/ethnicity is.... a crime is a crime.

@Leslie, I agree, race/ethneticity has nothing to do with crime. I only mentioned that the ladies were Latina's because I know a few and I know how over the top they can get at times! Certainly not meant to be a racial slur.

MA, I know you didn't...I just wanted you to be able to say that before someone starts hogging up the thread about that instead of the topic at hand.

Oh Nancy, I would not say that! Maybe in this instance, but not all Latina's are like that. Their blood just runs hot! They tend to get over excited about things which at times I find really funny!

I think the yearly quota for stereotyping has been reached in the comments section here. Well done. Heh.
