Lehigh Stays Unbeaten, Defeats Columbia 35-14
Mountain Hawks extend regular season winning streak to 15 games, now 6-0 on the season.
Paced by career performances by tight end Jamel Haggins and wide receiver Sergio Fernandez-Soto, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks improved on its undefeated season with a 35-14 victory over the Columbia Lions at Goodman Stadium Saturday.
Now 6-0 on the year, Lehigh has won 15 consecutive regular season games, the longest winning streak in college football. The Mountain Hawks came into the game ranked 10th and 11th in the two FCS rankings for Division I-AA.
For the fifth time in six games, Lehigh jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the other team could get on the board. Still, The Morning Call pointed out, the game was marred by mistakes that leave one wondering if Lehigh is a serious contender for the Patriot League title and a national playoff berth.
Haggins caught five passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns and Fernandez-Soto had a game high eight catches for 120 yards and his first career touchdown, according to The Express-Times.
All five of the games left on the Mountain Hawks’ schedule are against Patriot League opponents, starting next Saturday at Georgetown.
