HARB Approves Picket Fence for Goundie House

36-inch high fence will surround back yard of historic building downtown.

 

The Bethlehem Historic and Architectural Review Board last week approved the installation of a new 36-inch high wood picket fence to go around the back yard of the Goundie House at 501 Main St.

The fence will be 42-feet long and sit along the property line with the Historic Hotel Bethlehem’s parking deck, said Charlene Donchez Mowers, executive director of the Historic Bethlehem Partnership, which owns the Goundie House.

Built in 1810, the federal style brick building was the home of the city’s first brewer, Johann Sebastian Goundie. It now houses historic exhibits for the Partnership year-round and is the home of the city’s live each holiday season.
