Downtown Outdoor Holiday Market Opens Today

Christmas City Village, a market featuring about 30 craft vendors in German-style wooden huts, debuts for 2012 holiday season today.

Christmas City Village, an open-air holiday market, opens today for its second season in Historic Downtown Bethlehem.

The market is modeled on a German tradition known as a Weinachstmarkt (pronounced Vy-naukst-mart) and consists of 30 vendors selling handcrafted and unique items out of wooden huts, which were built by students at Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School.

Most of the huts will be located near in the Sun Inn Courtyard, however, some will also be located farther south near the 1750 Smithy and the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.

Christmas City Village is separate and distinct from Bethlehem's long-running Christkindlmarkt, which moved from under the Hill-to-Hill Bridge to the SouthSide SteelStacks campus in 2011. Christkindlmarkt is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
