The Foursquare social networking site has ranked Bethlehem number two on its list of "Least Romantic Cities" in the United States.
Lehigh Valley Live writer Kelly Huth said she disagrees with the ranking - especially considering that she became engaged in Bethlehem.
People use the Foursquare web/mobile application to post their location at a venue and connect with friends. The site ranked Beaverton, Ore. as the country's least romantic city and Lake Buena Vista, Fla. as the most romantic.
The Downtown Bethlehem Association is celebrating a week of romance with special discounts on shopping and dining for both singles and couples.

Not familiar with "for square"but it sounds stupid. Lake Buena Vista, oh yes Disney world, what is romantic about that unless you are an immature person. Bethlehem, at Christmas with it's Moravian window candles, carriage rides,fab restaurants and the overlook at Lehigh? What's not romantic! Most of those things can be replicated all year round,making it a lovely place for romance.

Bethlehem is a perfect town for romance. My husband and I live in Brooklyn and I work in Manhattan. We normally check into a room in town -- either the Hyatt Place or the Hotel Bethlehem. We love Apollo Grill and Thai Thai, we browse and buy books and other stuff in the Moravian Book Store and for entertainment, it's easy to hop on a shuttle and enjoy a little gambling at the Sands. We also try to come for Christmas where we have brunch and take pictures with Santa at the splendidly decorated Hotel Bethlehem. It also doesn't hurt that our best friends live in the township and they are always coming up with new places to dine and explore.

I think, like most things, it is what you make it. While it may not be a text-book romance city, there are plenty of ways to have a romantic time. The Main St area is great, and the South Side on First Friday could be a wonderful date night. There are some great restaurants, nice walks along the canal or by Illick's Mill. So, I guess it CAN be if you want it to be!

If you are checking in on Foursquare, you aren't being very romantic with the person you are having dinner or shopping with.

Yes, I agree it is what one makes it, to a point!
There is Main St. area on the north side, and it has a number of pleasant shops. The Moravian cemetery, settlement and buildings, and College, are always attractive...(A cemetery being romantic? Can be.)... And then the south side has Lehigh, and all the shops and places to eat around it. The sheer size of the town, with its various offerings, does not make it #2 on *that* list, I disagree. If one concentrates on the Bethlehem Steel, and the downfall of the Company, yes, I can see where the individual is coming from; but I doubt if Foursquare really knows very much about the city beyond this point.
