Crystal Bowersox of American Idol fame will be the headliner at a Sept. 10 Stabler Arena concert that will also be a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, according to a news release issued today.

Bowersox, who was the runner-up during Idol’s ninth season last year, revealed that she had the disease after she had to be hospitalized during the competition, which forced a change in scheduling on the show.

The concert will be preceded by a free outdoor festival outside of Stabler Arena that will feature a number of local bands, according to the release. The concert itself, which is being called “Rev It Up For Juvenile Diabetes,” will start at 7:30 p.m. and will also feature singer/songwriter and Nazareth native Jordan White and alternative rock band Hawthorne Heights.

Tickets for the show are $39.50 and $27.50 and are available through ticketmaster.com or by calling the Stabler Arena box office. A portion of the concert’s proceeds will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, “which moves life-altering research out of the lab and into human clinical trials,” according to the news release.

"When I was diagnosed as a young kid, I didn't really understand what it meant to have diabetes and what it meant to manage it properly,” Bowersox said, through the release.

“I wish, as a teenager when you think you are invincible, I had done a better job of managing my diabetes and taking care of myself. I didn't understand the long-term consequences, and my advice to kids is to manage your diabetes today - and every day - so that you can live your dreams, put your life first, and live a long, long time."

Bowersox was the first Idol contestant ever to perform one of her own original songs on the show. Her debut album, “Farmer’s Daughter,” was released in December.
