Alleged Pot Dealer Caught DUI with No Headlights
Bethlehem police found marijuana stash inside of Cadillac after driver was pulled over for having headlights off at night. Suspect was also drunk, police say.
A Bethlehem man driving with his car lights turned off is facing drunken driving and marijuana charges after being pulled over early Thursday, court records say.
Daniel Cardona, 29, of 952 Moravia St. was driving his silver 2000 Cadillac Seville around 2:30am when city Officer Louis D. Csaszar spotted the car southbound on Wyandotte Street, then westbound on Broadway.
The car’s headlights and tail lights were off, Csaszar said in a criminal complaint. After pulling over the car at Broadway and S. Bishopthorpe Street, the officer went up to it and smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the driver, later identified as Cardona.
Cardona’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy and he slurred his speech, the complaint said. The driver did “poorly” on a field sobriety test, and he tested positive for alcohol on a preliminary breath test. The complaint does not list Cardona’s blood-alcohol level.
Csaszar found $407 in Cardona’s wallet while searching him. He and another officer found a large plastic bag with three sandwich-sized plastic baggies in it. The smaller bags contained marijuana, the complaint said. The bags were in the car’s center console.
Cardona was charged with manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver marijuana – a third-degree felony. He also was charged with possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, DUI and periods for requiring lighted lamps.
He was arraigned at 6:30am Thursday by on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe of Bangor and committed to Northampton County Prison after failing to post $10,000 bail.
